here with us to celebrate. Last year, my mom, Matt, Mackenzie and I drove down to Florida on Black Friday so Gramma could meet her 7th great grandchild and I will forever cherish the few days we had to spend with her. Luckily, this year my brother was able to get a 96 hour leave from Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri and came home for the holiday. I was giddy with excitement walking through the airport and once my mom and I spotted him, it was hard to hold back my excitement. And forget showing no emotion as the USO clapped and cheered as every military personnel came off the escalators. Scott and I loaded up Mackenzie, Stetson and Nick on Wednesday night and headed to my mom's so we were lucky to spend almost the whole long weekend with my family. It never fails-we always have something happen that's out of our control when we least expect it. When we got home from picking Matt up at the airport it was time to start preparing all the food for Thanksgiving dinner. My family has always eaten an early supper and we were planning on eating around 4ish, well after "preheating" my mom's oven we soon realized that the oven wasn't working! So what do you do when you have a 12 lb. turkey and all the fixings on a major holiday with no oven? You laugh about, and you laugh hard. You see, this isn't the first time this has happened with the oven. Christmas day 2006 my mom planned on cooking a fairly large standing rib roast for not only our family, but my aunt and uncle who are both excellent cooks. Again after many laughs, we had to resort to cooking a standing rib roast on the grill for many hours. Luckily, when you have a handyman husband who still has all his work tools in his truck, Scott and my step dad were able to repair the stove by removing a few parts from here and moving them to there. So after the whole oven debacle we were off to cooking (several hours late) but who cares?! We still ate a delicious meal and had fun doing so. Mackenzie didn't care too much for any of the food even though we tried to convince her that the green beans were green french fries. She actually was smart enough to feed all of her meal to not one, but both of her doggies. Friday was spent with my dad, Scott, Matt, Hannah, and Mackenzie at my dad's. We had lunch at a dive in downtown Dawsonville and they had the best stinkin' cheeseburger I have ever eaten...no lie. Saturday morning we all enjoyed a huge breakfast and then we were off to Scott's parents for round 2 of Thanksgiving. Scott's NaNa is in town from California and we all ate way too much, but this time Mackenzie decided to try to eat what we had and she enjoyed most of it. We finally got home late Saturday night and were incredibly lazy which all three of us thoroughly enjoyed!
Apparently, Uncle Matt forgot how to old a baby while he's been gone! But, Mack loved it.
